]]> UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital is growing its Oakland medical campus with the addition of a state-of-the-art medical office building across the street from its main hospital. To clear the path for the new MOB, two existing structures of historical significance must be carefully moved one block away and preserved. The relocated structures will be renovated to serve as hospital offices. ³ÉÈËÍ·Ìõ’s scope of work includes selective demolition and relocation of the historic structures and a comprehensive revitalization of the office facilities.

]]> Salinas Valley Health has roots running back to 1953 when its hospital was first founded to service the Monterey County community.  To provide more parking at the campus, ³ÉÈËÍ·Ìõ is expanding the existing parking garage. The design build project includes four levels of parking above a basement level containing support spaces and loading dock. The cast-in-place concrete extension to the existing parking structure includes 245 stalls within 76,251 SF.

The four-level facility was built was in operating hospital site – extensive coordination was required to mitigate impacts of construction on the adjacent occupied facilities. We assisted the Owner in making critical design decisions based on construction costs. This included establishing a better site on campus to place the 757-stall garage, which helped save costs and allowed for a faster schedule. ³ÉÈËÍ·Ìõ self-performed layout, structural excavation, foundations, slab-on-grade, and vertical concrete placement.

Lifts were added for material deliveries. Scope of work included site work, utilities, landscaping and MEPF. The docks are adjacent to the hospital with ongoing operations. The project was phased to accommodate operations. Also, crews worked after hours for shutdowns and utility tie-ins. Weekend work occurred to accommodate Owner and neighboring community’s schedules. Project was subject to OSHPD and City inspections.

]]> Design and construction of a 393,000 SF cast-in-place parking structure in a congested urban environment. The seven-level facility was built on an existing on-grade parking lot in the heart of an operating hospital campus. A multi-story hospital was also being built concurrently on-site. Careful coordination with Sutter Health services and adjacent contractors was required. The new structure provides 1,067 parking spaces for staff, patients and visitors. Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) included the Owner, Architect, and Contractor to optimize the preconstruction and construction processes. The project required extensive below grade parking system evaluation, including multiple deep foundations, soil improvement and waterproofing systems. We self-performed the concrete on the project, placing of 25,000 CY of concrete in 8 months. We met 21 sustainable elements in design and construction, as well as recycled 96% of construction waste, exceeding the City of Oakland’s 65% requirement.
