San Jose Airport Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting Facility

Project Details

This progressive design-build, 18,000 SF Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting Facility (ARFF) was delivered one month early, within budget and with a perfect safety record. It is the first facility on the West Coast to serve two separate firefighting functions within one building. It provides a new, modern home for Fire Station #20 firefighters and airport rescue personnel stationed at Norman Y. Mineta San Jose International Airport (SJC). These firefighters not only serve the airport but are also City of San Jose (CSJ) emergency responders. This new, unique, dual function facility gives them improved access to lifesaving equipment and resources to better protect the residents of San Jose and the 16 million people that travel through the airport every year. The all new facility includes five apparatus bays housing SJC’s four ARFF vehicles, a maintenance bay, plus a landside vehicle bay and additional living quarters. ENR Award of Merit and DBIA National Award of Merit winner, and International Partnering Institute鈥檚 (IPI) 2023 Project of the Year.
